“HAIYANGSHIYOU 981” deepwater SEMI rig is under construction in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard (CSSC SWS). This rig belongs to CNOOC and it’s the newest sixth generation semi-submersible drilling unit, which is a very important project of China National ‘863’ Plan and will play key role in development of Chinese deep water sea. This rig can operate in South China Sea, Southeast of Asia, GoM, and West Africa Sea. The design water depth for operation is up to 3,000 m and the drilling depth is about 10,000 m.
